Protect fingers and palms while rasping your next masterpiece with another tip from Ken Peterson. Cut the finger and thumbs (1 to 1-1/2 in. long) off an old leather glove—a right glove if you’re right-handed, left if you’re a lefty. Sheathe the end of the rasp with one of the leather fingertips, then pull on the newly bobbed glove. It’ll cushion your palm without sacrificing the finger control you need for effective sculpting with the rasp. Now you can really bear down on the workpiece for faster stock removal with nary a scratch or callus on your fingers and palms.
